There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, highlights 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights many comforts on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
